Playing with a burst of energy from the outset, North Dakota State jumped out to a 9-4 lead over Gonzaga in the first two minutes … and we thought maybe this was going to be the upset we’ve been waiting for all day. But alas, it wasn’t meant to be. Gonzaga returned to being the Gonzaga we’ve seen all year and did just enough to hold on for a 86-76 victory, although NDSU never really went away in a valiant effort.
It may have taken a few minutes of playing time for Wisconsin to assert its dominance over Coastal Carolina — much to the chagrin of Badgers fans and the delight of Chanticleers fans — but in the end Frank the Tank and friends were too much for the Big South tournament champs, as Wisconsin rolled to a 86-72 win. The 32nd win of the season for Wisconsin sets a new school single-season record.
Despite a couple of scoring runs by No. 16 Robert Morris to bring the crowd in Charlotte to its feet and put the Colonials within striking distance of top-seeded Duke, there was never really any doubt in the final result after the first couple of minutes in the game, as the Blue Devils cruised to an 85-56 win.
