For more than 30 minutes of Saturday’s game between No. 4 North Carolina and No. 5 Arkansas, it looked like it could come down to a buzzer beater. It took a gutsy effort by UNC to make it to the Sweet 16, advancing with an 87-78 win.
This third-round match-up pits two Indiana schools separated by just 150 miles. The winner claims a spot in the Sweet 16 and the pride of being the last Indiana team to be alive in the tourney. Notre Dame holds a 71-69 all time series lead, but the Bulldogs have won the last six meetings. Notre Dame’s last win against Butler came in 1989. Both Arkansas and North Carolina were able to survive their first game on Thursday by a combined 5 points. Any win in the tourney is a good win though, especially on a first day when four double-digit seeds were able to win. This is a match-up that pits teams that are 16th and 17th in the nation in scoring per game. This looks to be one of the better games of the third round action. The last time the Razorbacks made the tournament was in 2008 when the Tar Heels put them out. The game tips at 8:40 ET on TNT.
