In a stunner tonight, No. 8 NC State has shocked No. 1 Villanova at the Consol Energy Center, 71-68.
Darrun Hillard went off tonight to the tune of 27 points, but it wasn’t enough to top the upstart Wolfpack in a tight game. The first half was close, with a flurry of fouls going into the half, with NC State up 32-28. After the break, things continued to heat up with the game becoming quite chippy near the end, as 12 fouls were recorded in the last 5 minutes. Villanova sank three from beyond the arc as a final comeback bid, but never could pull ahead of State.
No. 1 Kentucky took care of business against No. 8 Cincinnati today, with a solid 64-51 trouncing of the Bearcats.
The first half started slow, with a 4-minute scoring drought and 12 consecutive missed shots. Cincinnati’s Octavius Ellis, who played tonight despite being ejected from Thursday’s game against No. 9 Purdue, did a great job on the boards pulling down 6 in the half. Aaron Harrison, who ended the game with 13 points, landed a three to send the Wildcats up 7 going into the half, 24-31.
