This was a back and forth game like almost every game this tournament, at least for the first half. In the beginning of the game the Cardinals seemed to be just ahead of Northern Iowa but never out of reach. The second half was a different story though as Louisville never lost the lead. Even after their offense stalled for minutes at a time they worked through it to hold off the Panthers, 66-53.
No. 1 Duke cruised by No. 8 San Diego State in the Round of 32 today, 68-49, locking up its spot in the Sweet 16.
The game was never in question in the Time Warner Cable Arena, with Duke outscoring the Aztecs in both halves, and its defense remaining stout. Jahlil Okafor had a good day, ending the game with 26 points on 16 shots, but the real showing came from the Justin Winslow who grabbed 12 boards.
This game was all too familiar for both teams. They met last year in the Sweet 16 with the Cavaliers getting the best of the Spartans. The air exuberated “revenge” for Michigan State as they pined for an upset. They fought early to get a small lead and kept it through the entire game. Michigan State outlasted a Virginia team that just couldn’t seem to get its shots to fall. It wasn’t hard to keep the sub-30-percent-shooting Cavaliers underneath in terms of score. Michigan State wins 60-54 and continues dancing.
