College sports are built upon the foundation of great rivalries. Tonight, we celebrate the Mona Lisa of college basketball rivalries when the No. 4 Duke Blue Devils welcome No. 15 North Carolina to Cameron Indoor Stadium at 8 p.m. CT on ESPN.

The Battle of Tobacco Road is the best rivalry in college sports. Yes, I went there. I said it. The best darn rivalry in college sports.

A Weekend of Heartbreakers

Even the best Hollywood movie screenwriter couldn’t have written a more perfect ending for Michigan State on Saturday.

Tied at 56-56 with No. 22 Ohio State, Denzel Valentine – yes, really – hit the game-winning 3-pointer with 3.2 seconds left in regulation to lift the Spartans to a key win on – yes, really – Valentine’s Day.

My college basketball valentines

Not everyone will be celebrating Valentine’s Day the same way today. Some folks are more traditional, opting for dinner and a night out with their sweetie. Other will have “Singles Awareness Day” and weep while they watch Nicholas Sparks movies by themselves.

As for me, I’ll be watching college basketball, and that’s all the love a guy could really ask for. I don’t need Dove chocolates or a bottle of wine. All I require is my beloved game of hardwood bliss and I’m all set.

So, in honor of this Holiday of Love, I complied a list of players, coaches, and teams who will be receiving a bouquet of roses and a homemade construction-paper Valentine’s Day card made from yours truly.
