This was a back and forth game like almost every game this tournament, at least for the first half. In the beginning of the game the Cardinals seemed to be just ahead of Northern Iowa but never out of reach. The second half was a different story though as Louisville never lost the lead. Even after their offense stalled for minutes at a time they worked through it to hold off the Panthers, 66-53.
Wichita State and the Kansas Jayhawks had not met since 1993, in what was once a regularly-scheduled match-up.
No. 2-seeded Kansas probably wished it stayed that way after a 78-65 loss to the seven-seeded Shockers at CenturyLink Center Sunday night.
Tekele Cotton’s hot shooting night and another consistent performance from Fred VanVleet paced the Shockers to their sixth NCAA tournament regional semifinal round in school history.
The Zags are going on to the Sweet 16 after dominating the Iowa Hawkeyes. Gonzaga had four players in double digits and crashed the boards with 34 rebounds. The team was not stingy with the ball by any means with every starter having at least one assist. Domantas Sabonis stepped up big off the bench tallying 18 points and the Gonzaga Bulldogs would go on to win, 87-68.
