Sweet 16 Preview: Xavier vs. Arizona

With three quarters of the teams eliminated, we are entering the Sweet 16, the round that has given hoops fans instant classics for years.  Hopefully Thursday’s late game in Los Angeles won’t disappoint. Seven-seed Xavier is taking on 2-seed Arizona in the “House that Kobe Built,” also known as the Staples Center.

Instant Analysis: Wisconsin pulls away late

With the Sweet 16 on the line, neither team was willing to give in.  No. 1 seed Wisconsin wasn’t able to pull away from the Ducks until late in this one, 72-65.  The Ducks gave the Badgers and Bo Ryan all they could handle. Frank Kaminsky did not steal the show, but he was able to tally 16 points.

Instant Analysis: No. 2 Arizona moves on

The game started how Ohio State wanted it to start. You couldn’t have asked for a better half of basketball. Arizona came in as a 2-seed and completely dominated its first match-up against Texas Southern but today was a different story going against the highly under-rated Buckeyes and D’Angelo Russell. Russell has stepped into the national spotlight by leading the NCAA in points per game by a freshman. And if you can remember Ohio State sent Arizona packing two years ago in the West Regional semifinals, but it didn’t happen this time despite a great effort from Ohio State. Arizona pulled away late for a 73-58 win.
