If you remember correctly, America was stunned that UCLA was even in the field this year. Motivation? Maybe. UCLA jumped out to an early lead in the first half on the shoulders of Bryce Alford, who went 9-of-11 from 3-point range. Alford was draining threes and controlling the tempo of the game as SMU looked like it had just gotten out of bed and was late for class. Larry Brown, SMU’s head coach is suffering from bronchitis and early on it felt as if his players were a little under the weather as well. UCLA took a 4 point lead into halftime.
With all of the craziness early in the day, leave it to Arizona to restore some normalcy to everyone’s bracket. The No. 2 seed in the West cruised to a 93-72 win over an overmatched Texas Southern team.
Forget about Christmas. This is the most wonderful time of the year.
The Selection Committee has spoken and the bracket has been released. Judging by the loading times on every single sports website, you and everyone else in America are printing and filling out your bracket so hastily that you all probably misspelled
Valparaiso. That’s okay, it happens.
While we are all shaking with anticipation and trying to think of a legit excuse to get out of work for Thursday and Friday, I hate to be the Scrooge, but someone has to be. I have a few gripes with this year’s selection committee. Nothing too serious, they didn’t put Gonzaga as a 7-seed or anything stupid — but there are a few head scratchers.
