Our Team – 2015

Alexander Dane Baron

ACC Writer

A sports-fanatic with a passion for hoops and football. He bleeds Carolina Blue on the court and red and black on the field. He loves seeing Duke-blue blood spilt on the court and orange and white on the field. His least favorite song is “Rocky Top” and his least favorite player is anyone who ever played home games at Cameron Indoor. He was born in a place where football is God and basketball is seen as the Tooth Fairy but to him they are one in the same. He dreams of one day coaching and teaching sports to the youth and the Tar Heels (Basketball) and the Georgia Bulldogs (Football) winning another National Championship.

Kyle Blevens

C-USA/Atlantic 10/East Mid-Majors Writer

A Tennessee Titans fan that won’t give up the Super Bowl hopes every year, you will usually find Kyle cheering for mostly any team from Tennessee or the underdog. He wakes up ready to #GritNGrind everyday (Go Grizzlies!) and can’t get enough of Smashville (Preds!). Kyle loves making trips to Turner Field to watch the Braves (even if the umpire blows an infield fly call). He grew up playing football and wanting to be around sports as much as he possibly could be. Kyle wants to go ahead and predict that MTSU will beat Bama next year in Tuscaloosa in what will be one of the biggest upsets in college football history. He is a Murfreesboro native who is excited to cover college basketball, which is one of the most passionate sports around.

Jacob Cook

Pac-12/WAC/Big West Writer, Copy Editor

Jacob is a sports fanatic. He loves them all. At any time you could find him putting backspin on the tennis court, pulling crossovers on basketball court and running out routes on the football field. The one true passion is the gridiron and he is a Tennessee Titans fan through and through. The Super Bowl is Christmas and the draft is a 3-day vacation extravaganza. He scout his own combine just for fun. The NBA is a treat when he can catch it. Kevin Durant is all I have to say. Go Preds! Finally! A Kentucky basketball fan for thrills but a Rocky Top fan at heart. The SEC is all that really matters, right? (Sarcasm.)

Matt Dinkins

Strategist/Features Writer

Matt, a fan of films and the strategic side of sports, is a fan of the NFL and NBA, as well as NCAA Basketball. A sophomore at Middle Tennessee State University, he is pursuing a degree in Video Production, as well as a minor in New Media Writing.

Brett Gilbert

SEC Writer

Brett’s from a small town just north of Nashville called Coopertown, Tenn. He’s a lifelong homer who cheers for the Titans, Grizzlies, Vols, and St. Louis Cardinals. He often dreams about Bruce Pearl coming home to the promised land in Knoxville through the Pearly Gates to win it all.

Connor Grott

Big 12 Writer

Connor Grott is the Sports Editor for Middle Tennessee State University’s student-run newspaper, Sidelines. He has done freelance prep sports assignments for The Tennessean and The Daily (Murfreesboro) News Journal. He is co-host of WMTS 88.3’s Lockdown Coverage and a life-long Atlanta Falcons fanatic. That guy, Butch Jones, is pretty awesome. Go Vols. His opinions aren’t very popular.

Abby Hapner

Mountain West/WCC/Big Sky Writer

Abby is a lover of all things Tennessee, except for the Vols and that gaudy orange. Born and raised a sports fan, she played the game of basketball for most of her life and wouldn’t trade it for anything. Die hard Predators and Titans fan, for college football huge fan of the Smurf Turf (Go Broncos), Notre Dame and Clemson. If she’s not watching sports, she is doing something with music and Nashville has its perks.

Andrew Hapner

Recruiting/Features Writer

Jake, as he is known, is fascinated by the cutthroat business of recruiting, and everything associated with it. He was born in Big 12 country, but raised in the SEC. Huge fan of all sports, but his number one team is Notre Dame football. GO IRISH!

Kevin Jackson

American Athletic/Missouri Valley Writer

Kevin is an on-again, off-again college student that can’t seem to grow up … basically your typical “Toys R Us kid.” This thirty-year old kid started at MTSU in the fall of 2003 thinking he wanted to teach one day. Twelve years and multiple career paths later, he has found himself settling down and studying something he has always loved all along – media. Before his formative years, he always had a camera in his hand and his eyes and ears glued to a TV set or radio. Sports have always been and will always be another love in his life. A decent athlete through high school, his mantra was “if I can’t play it I’ll watch or listen to it.”

Jake Miller

Big Ten Writer

Jake is an avid Tennessee Volunteers fan from the Knoxville area and a student at Middle Tennessee State University. When Jake is not behind the desk, he is a pizza and sandwich enthusiast. Jake takes great pride in being the unfiltered and unbiased sports guru that always gives the fans what they want.

Jake Rose

National Columnist

Jake is the Founding Father and lone member of the American Basketball Fundamentalist Movement (A.B.F.M.). He loves American history books and considers himself to be an amateur movie critic. He’s a sports reporter and broadcaster for GoBlueRaiders.com and a contributing MLB and college basketball writer for Athlon Sports. He’s a Harry Caray impersonator … and worshiper at the House of Theo (Epstein).

Marthony Sanders

Big East Writer

Football is king! Marthony is a huge Atlanta Falcons fan, born and raised in Memphis. Respect the Grizzlies, but a huge fan of the OKC Thunder. Red Sox Nation and proud!! Very #TrueBlue in all sports, and #HoddyToddy has a small place in my heart. (Never will he ever wear that God awful orange from Knoxville!)

Carla Swank

Managing Editor

As a life-long fan of all things Black and Gold, Carla is a displaced Pittsburgher who has dabbled in sports media throughout her career, beginning in her collegiate days as a senior sports producer at the campus TV station. She has been a sports writer and copy editor for the Beaver County Times, senior writer and site publisher for PaPreps.com, and assistant editor and team site producer for Rivals.com and Yahoo! Sports where she covered high school and college football at the national level. She continues to freelance for various publications and co-hosts a college football webcast at DraftDaySuit.com. While she longs for those blissful summer evenings at PNC Park (hey, the Pirates are good again!), she is enjoying her current role as a lecturer focusing on new media at MTSU.

Because we know you're not studying.
