In this way-too-early look at the 2016 NCAA Tournament, I’ll be giving my guess at which teams that made it this year will be missing out in the next. Whether due to graduating seniors, freshman superstars going to the NBA, or just plain not being very good, I don’t think they’ll make it to March.
This was another great match-up pitting a 4-seed in Maryland and 5-seed in West Virginia together with the winner getting tournament-favorite Kentucky and a chance to change the course of history. In a game that was back and forth through the first half, West Virginia was able to pull away in the second for a 69-59 win.
In a widely seeded affair at Nationwide Arena, No. 4 Maryland grinded out a win over No. 13 Valparaiso, 65-62. Valpo came up short in the first half and, while keeping the Terrapins in reach, never got back into against a Maryland team shooting 50 percent from beyond the arc.
