Gonzaga faced the wildcard of the tournament tonight in UCLA. Unlike nine years ago when Gonzaga blew a second half lead to lose the game, the Bulldogs instead showed up tonight and played the basketball game that was meant to be played. I think we all knew Gonzaga wasn’t going to let the only double-digit seed left derail its Elite 8 birth. It wanted some revenge and ended the game with a 74-62 win.
The Gonzaga Bulldogs look to take on the UCLA Bruins tonight in the Sweet 16. This comes nine years after the infamous image of Adam Morrison crying at mid court after the Zags blew a lead in the second half to get eliminated. The Bulldogs are favored to win the game, but there are some things for the Bruins to do to upset the Zags.
Both the Bruins and Blazers came off of stunning, same score, one point victories in the 2nd round of the tournament and looked to edge the other for supremacy and a Sweet 16 coasting. Unlike the Battle for Atlantis game on Nov. 28, both teams were able to run full throttle today. That didn’t seem to help UAB much other than keeping them in the game until the last few minutes. They just couldn’t make UCLA turn the ball over or miss shots. When a team is on fire like that, it takes everything in a team to stifle it. UCLA advances in a high scoring contest, 92-75.
