It’s no secret that many conferences have their strengths and weaknesses when it comes to the teams it consists of.
As such, many schools have bolted for different leagues or stayed to take advantage of weaker opponents. (We’re looking at you, Gonzaga …)
In the 2013-14 season, the realignment impact was clear for the bigger conferences. The trickle-down effect occurred in the following 2014-15 season for many of the smaller schools and conferences, with the exception of Louisville making the move to the ACC or Davidson making its long-awaited switch to the Atlantic 10.
With the Duke Blue Devils being crowned champions this past season, here are some conference moves we’d love to see before the upcoming season.
It’s has been rumored for years that Florida men’s head basketball coach Billy Donovan would make the jump from the NCAA to the NBA. Well, that day could soon be approaching. The Oklahoma City Thunder fired head coach Scott Brooks on Wednesday and the Thunder have taken public interests in a few candidates in the college realm, including Donovan.
Welcome to the last two days of the regular season … which are appropriately enough loaded with top games. Some games today, though, that aren’t getting the top billing are more important for the long-term. Many teams need key wins to get off the tournament bubble. Others are looking for convincing wins to strengthen their tournament resumes. So while the Duke/North Carolina, Kansas/Oklahoma, and Virginia/Louisville games are outstanding, don’t forget about these games either. Our recommendation? Settle in for an outstanding day of college hoops.
