No. 6 Villanova heads into the Dunkin Donuts Center to take on Providence in a pivotal match-up in the Big East. Can the Friars pull off the upset? Or will the Wildcats reign in supremacy?
Ahh, the Big East: Syracuse versus Georgetown, Villanova versus Pitt, Louisville versus Notre Dame … oh wait, four of those teams are in the ACC now. (Yeah, I still can’t believe it myself.) Anyway, tonight’s game between Villanova and Providence is huge as the two teams are only separated by 1.5 games.
Why Should You Care:
Hello?! It’s a match-up between last year’s regular season champ (Nova) and conference tournament champ (Providence). This game could determine the regular season champion with the added intrigue of whether Villanova could possibly jump to a No. 1 seed with a win, or a 2- or 3-seed come NCAA Tournament time.
Match-up to Watch:
I’m watching the guard play in this one. It could be interesting with the Wildcats’ Darrun Hilliard II and the Friars Kris Dunn.
For Villanova, it’s JayVaughn Pinkston. His senior leadership and ability to get rebounds can be a game changer. For Providence, it’s LaDontae Henton, the conference leading scorer.
Too much from Nova’s bench and coaching. 78-71 Nova.
