The University of Alabama has officially announced that Avery Johnson will indeed be the next head basketball coach for the Crimson Tide. Yesterday there were reports from several sources that there was a verbal agreement between Johnson and the Crimson Tide athletic department and everyone was just waiting around for an official announcement. That announcement came within the past hour, according to AL.com.

The Crimson Tide fired Anthony Grant on March 15 after making the NIT. Grant did not coach the team in the NIT. While the contract details are not set in stone, Alabama athletic director Bill Battle plans to announce the hiring officially on Wednesday.

This deal still requires approval from the University Board of Trustees.
