No. 1 Duke cruised by No. 8 San Diego State in the Round of 32 today, 68-49, locking up its spot in the Sweet 16.
The game was never in question in the Time Warner Cable Arena, with Duke outscoring the Aztecs in both halves, and its defense remaining stout. Jahlil Okafor had a good day, ending the game with 26 points on 16 shots, but the real showing came from the Justin Winslow who grabbed 12 boards.
Despite a couple of scoring runs by No. 16 Robert Morris to bring the crowd in Charlotte to its feet and put the Colonials within striking distance of top-seeded Duke, there was never really any doubt in the final result after the first couple of minutes in the game, as the Blue Devils cruised to an 85-56 win.
A day of upsets and bracket busters led to close call games all day. Heading into the tournament Kentucky was practically the unanimous pick to win the tournament, so would the first round upsets touch them? Of course not. Kentucky showed why it is the No. 1 team in the nation, breezing past its first round bye … I mean game (sorry, Hampton), 79-56.
