Instant Analysis: No. 8 NC State wins at buzzer

Following the theme of today’s games, LSU and NC State kept it close. It appeared to be your typical 8-9 match-up until about 5 minutes left in the first half when LSU went on a 21-6 leading into halftime … at which point I thought this game was over. Clearly I hadn’t learned my lesson from the rest of the 1st round. NC State would make me pay for that when they went on a 18-3 run to close out the game. North Carolina went on to win 66-65.

Impact Player

Anthony Barber proved to be essential down the stretch as he scored 17 and hit 2 out of 3 free throws which ended up being huge in this game, just ask LSU. Also an honorable mention to BeeJay Anya who only had 4 points, but made the game winning basket with 4 seconds left.

Turning Point

When Trevor Lacey made a beautiful 3-point jumper to bring LSU’s lead down under 10, where it would stay until NC State took the lead with the game winning shot.

Strange Yet True

NC State didn’t lead the entire second half until it took the lead with under 5 seconds left at 66-65, which ended up being the final score.

Up Next

No. 9 North Carolina State gets to take a shot at upsetting possibly the most vulnerable 1 seed Villanova.
